Hi there,
I had posted an entry awhile back, and I would like some feedback from other grandmothers. π
What are your thoughts?….
Should You Be Compensated For Babysitting Your Own Grandchildren?
Now here is a topic that may create some controversy. π
First and foremost, you need to consider your particular situation when debating compensation for committing to look after your grandchildren.
Do you have daily commitments?
Do you work at home?
Are you taking care of more than one child?
What are the ages of your grandchildren?
Is this a full time commitment?

Thank you for your feedback and comments KJ..much appreciated. π

Hi Tammy. I appreciate your dilemma. Five years ago I told my daughter that I would take care of my grandson. I am not paid for my time, unless you count his kisses and hugs as payment.
Accepting payment is something that you will have to decide on your own. I never have. However, you may want to do so. That is entirely up to you.
No matter what you decide, I strongly suggest sitting down with your son and daughter-in-law and setting down boundaries. I wish I had taken the time to do so.
I work from home and when my grandson is here, I can't do my job until he leaves for the night. It isn't his fault but there are times that I resent taking care of him, not because of what he does but because I didn't set the boundaries before I agreed to take on the responsibility.
Taking care of a child is a huge responsibility. Sit down with your loved ones and discuss the situation beforehand. Set the boundaries and put in writing what you will do and what you won't do. You will all be much happier if you take the time to do so.
