Ahhh, YES!! The trees are just now starting to turn into vibrant oranges, burgundies, yellows, and reds. This grandmother adores the fall season almost as much as she adores her grandchildren!! <3 <3
Autumn is beautiful and perfect for waking up the senses with savory aromas of pumpkin spice coffee, crunched leaves, and baked goodness.
With the crisp temperatures on the horizon, Grandma’s blessings are more apt to find indoor activities to be more suitable and cozy than playing outside. Along with that comes more video playing and TV watching. 😉
The temps haven’t been terribly cool as of yet, however, I do feel a slight nip in the air that alerts me that fall is (officially) around the corner!
Little boys and girls all over the globe will be absorbed in more tv and their favorite video games; especially as winter approaches. Most parents and grandparents have set limits on these type of activities. And there are others who unquestionably do not.
I remember when I was raising my son…letting him slouch in front of the TV screen a little more than I’d like! Hmmm, that was about 20, 25 years ago. Wow, disciplinary rules and resources have evolved! <3
This Old Granny has done her due diligence, researched and thought of some healthier (and fun) ways for her grands to spend their time indoors.
The fall season initiates some fun choices to entertain the most energetic grandchild.
NOTE: Most of these activities will require an agreement and involvement from the parents. So, take that into consideration.
10 Healthier (Fall) Options to Help Keep Your Grandchildren More Active
*1 – Halloween costume planning and shopping. What grandchild doesn’t get excited about trick or treating!? Well, unless they feel they are too old. A lot of grandmothers happily agree to make Halloween costumes themselves. Your little ones will most likely appreciate the sentiment.
*2 – Get the car out and travel to neighborhoods that are heavily involved in decorating their homes for fall and Halloween. 🎃 Society is more engaged in decorating for this beautiful season than it used to be.
*3 – Try and inspire the kiddos to decorate the inside and outside of the house. This will require another outing for this season’s festive decor. What young adult would not be just the slightest bit enthusiastic about this activity?? Enough said!
*4 – Evening Bon Fire. Now of course Grandma, you have to get out the hot dogs and s’mores for this one. Undoubtedly, grandchildren love this! <3 You can even make a whole night of it and make some chili to go along with the fall vibe and the hot dogs.
*5 – If you have enough items around the house that need a new home, prepare to have a fun garage sale. There are many fun things that can be done with a sale that will entice kids to participate. One fun thing is to give a percentage of the profits to your grandchild for helping out. Fall garage sales are especially fun.
*6 -Play some Halloween board games. Amazon has quite the selection. Fun times!
*7 – Gather things around the home to Halloween-dress-up just for a fun day or evening. It doesn’t have to be ON Halloween. Granny, you have to participate!
*8 – Plant fall mums. You can do the same thing as with the garage sale option. Pay those little blessings for helping. Plus, this will give the outside of your home an extra festive feel and look!
*9 – Carve pumpkins. Go online and look up unique designs and ideas. Make it extra exciting with hot chocolate or cider. Also, roasting pumpkin seeds add a fun touch to this fall activity.
*10 – Have a baking day. Have each child make something different. Make up some fall breads, cookies or pastries. The more little ones involved, all the more exciting! Make it a contest and have the family choose their favorite baked goods. The grandchild that bakes the winning sweet treat gets their choice of a lunch outing place.
I hope these activity suggestions and grandparenting tips were helpful. They definitely will help your kiddos be more active and healthy not sitting around all the time.
Thank you so much for reading! <3
