We are not born with a forgiving spirit, are we? Of course not! None of us are. However, through prayer and reading God’s word, we can forgive AND be forgiven. 😉
I personally know people that hold grudges to the bitter end. Will they be forgiven? That’s between them and God and I know within my heart that I should not judge them. They will be judged at the end of days or whenever they pass on.
However, it’s hard sometimes to always have a forgiving spirit. It’s natural to be angry, hurt, or even spiteful at someone that has betrayed or wronged us in some way. But God is always there by our side readily, and willing to forgive. HE will always forgive us if we ask him, except for one sin…
There is one sin that cannot be forgiven. I was taught this at an early age. And that is to deny the Holy Spirit. It says it all in the scripture below
Matthew 12:31-32 “And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”
I’ve searched the scriptures on “forgiveness and my findings are included below.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Psalm 86:5
“For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.”
Luke 17:4
If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, “I repent,” forgive him.
Matthew 18:21-22
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you,
not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”
Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Have a forgiving heart today and every day, and pray for those that wrong you. =)
Hope you have a great week! 🙂
