Beautiful Fall Colored Leaves, Hoodies, And a Sleep In Sunday

image

This grandma is looking forward to Halloween with her grandkids! Here it is October 24th. Where has this year gone to!!

Sis and I slept in until 10:20 AM (yesterday – Sunday) guess we needed the sleep! Lol

There hasn’t been frost on the pumpkins yet, however, it’s coming. This has been an exceptional year weather wise. lol I’m wondering how mild our winter is going to be?

image

I’ve been staying with my sister while she recovers from a surgery. I love ๏ธ making a difference in someone’s life. It does my heart good.

image

I’ve become a (decaf) coffee drinker again…at least until my urologist tells me otherwise. I LOVE coffee ๏ธ!!! And gotta love Denny’s!

image

I drink (2) bottles of water (before) drinking the coffee, and also, afterwards. I also make my coffee weak and put quite a bit of creamer in it. So far, my bladder hasn’t been affected.

I’m enjoying the color change of the leaves and the (gradual) crisp breeze in the weather! I simply love the autumn season!

My weight loss challenge…well, let’s just say, I’ve taken a hiatus from this challenge. Both eating healthy and working out.

That’s going to change very soon!!!

I don’t remember the last time I had makeup on…probably the last Avon video I made. It’s been awhile.

At least, I’m making an attempt at keeping busy blog posting.

Happy Autumn and Halloween !

Be safe this Halloween!

5 Fun Summer Activities You Can Do Even In Winter

summerinwinter Although summer is swiftly coming to a close and chillier days are upon us, you don’t have to put away all your warm weather gear just yet. Luckily, there are a variety of fun ways to incorporate sunnier activities into your winter regimen.

Here are some favorites:

Go Glamping

While summer may be the time for outdoor campfires, s’mores, and falling asleep to the sound of crickets, winter is prime ‘glamping’ time: camping in luxurious style. Set up a tent in the living room and pile it high with comfy pillows, string up twinkling lights in lieu of fireflies, and play some fun nighttime nature sounds on the stereo.

Have an Indoor Luau

Hawaii may be miles from your home and current climate, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring the festivities indoors. Host a family (or neighborhood!) luau with Hawaiian music, snacks, and decorations. “Decorate with palm fronds and use grass skirting around the edges of tables,” writes Linda Donahue for Livestrong.com, “to go all out, add fake palm trees. For atmosphere, encourage your guests to come in Hawaiian shirts, sarongs and beach wear.”

FORTPIC

Hit The Swimming Pool

Indoor community pools generally stay open all year-round, so what better time to enjoy a beach day than on a snow day? Lay out brightly colored towels and blankets and bring suitable poolside snacks and toys to enjoy in between splashing around. You can even add some gorgeously fun flair with a mermaid Shimmer tail, and turn the pool into an instant tropical lagoon. This is definitely a great way to relive some of the joys of summer.

Head To The Kitchen

Barbecue, tacos, and burgers may seem like outdoor summer fare, but you can just easily fire up the proverbial grill indoors. Once a week plan a fun summer dinner with all your picnic favorites, with StyleAtHome adding: “Mix and match dishes in fun vibrant colors or with funky patterns like stripes and botanic prints.”

Cut A Rug

Head to the basement or family room, push the furniture aside, crank up the surf rock and hold a vintage-inspired indoor dance party, with all the #1 beach hits and appropriate styles to accompany. Serve up soda fountain classics like root beer floats and ice cream sundaes, with Madmen-style summer cocktails for the adults.

Winter is all about keeping the spirit of summer alive, and with a little creativity you can enjoy all your favorite activities long after summer vacation’s come to an end.

Outdoor Summer Time Fun With Grandkids and Work Outs For Grandma

100_3602

Before technology was attached to the hip of just about every child or grandchild, playing outdoors was the thing to do to get in some exercise time with your little ones. The word, “tablet” was labeled as a simple pad of paper that you wrote in with a pen or pencil.

Technology has literally taken the place of active playing with the kiddos; making it difficult to keep them active and in good shape. Sure, technology today is excellent for learning and keeping up with your child’s studies in school or looking up just the right element for teaching your kids various things.

However, today’s society is concerned about a generation of grandchildren/children becoming obese. Tech tablets, iPhones and laptops have taken over. Although, there are excellent ways to keep them moving and away from all the tech stuff, (at least a good portion of the time).

Getting Your Grandchildren Outdoors Is Key!

One Dozen Summer Fun Ideas

* Outside Workout Routine – Summertime is a good time for this activity. Pick either the early morning or late evening hours to beat the heat. Try and make the routines fun for the kiddos and YOU as well. Maybe watch some videos/youtubes to get a few ideas flowing for the outdoors.

* Trip To The Park – Walking, running and playing are all excellent activities at the park. I see a lot of moms and grandparents walking with strollers. However, that’s not all there is to do at the park. There are usually slides, swings and teeter-totters for the kids to play on too. These are fun activities for grandparents to stay active. Most often, it’s a good workout just chasing and keeping up with them!

* Find Hidden Objects – Scavenger Hunt – This is an all-time favorite for many kids. Grandparents can have some fun with this. You can offer a small dollar amount for the child that finds the most objects. However, there are other rewards you can offer as well. Maybe make them a favorite food or dessert. You can also take the kids on a special outing.

* Walking – If you are caring for three to six month year olds and toddler age grandchildren, always have a stroller on hand and take them walking with you. This will give you an incentive for walking outdoors. Also, it’s always encouraged to walk as a family. The ideal time for this is in the evenings.

* Swimming – This is an all-time favorite among the kiddos during the hot summer months. I know this Grandma loves the pool. Get them out with you for some fun; although, safety is number one while swimming with kids. Life jackets, noodles, and innertubes are musts for safety.

* Hula Hooping – Tell me you haven’t heard of the hula hoop! lol ๐Ÿ™‚ This type of activity would, of course, be for the older grandchildren in your family. A lot of folks call hula hooping “hula dancing.” Work up some fun moves with the hoops. A good idea would be to watch a few youtubes on this fun activity.

* Back Yard Ball Games – What child doesn’t enjoy ballgames? I know my grandkids LOVES playing ball outside. Be a “cool Grandma” and get outside and play ballgames they enjoy. Softball, kickball, soccer or just ball rolling are all great for extra activity.

* Frisbee – Frisbee has been a fun past time for years. However, for the younger kiddos, special attention would have to be practiced for safety. It would be easier and safer to work with (smaller than average) frisbees. ๐Ÿ™‚

* Water Balloon Fun – This activity is great for the very hot summer days. Water balloons entice laughter while cooling the young ones off, (and you too Grandma) while having lots of fun. Water balloons are sure to please the kids and grown ups of all ages.

* Jump Roping – Playing jump rope doesn’t have to be just for the girls, although, for the majority, more girls like this activity more than boys. Grandparents need to be in fair shape to participate. (Grandma), if you workout to begin with, of course, you won’t have any problems keeping up. ๐Ÿ™‚

* Trip To The Zoo – Going to the zoo is always a workout with children along. Make walking fun by visiting your grandchildren’s favorite animals. Pack some fun lunches and let them help you with making their lunch. Find an area with shade to sit down and eat; most often, there are picnic tables all over the zoo park. A trip to the zoo will be fun for sharing special moments and picture taking to remember for always.

family

* Gardening – Most Grandmoms love to garden, and chances are your grandkids would love to help out. Purchase flowers that are vivid in color to make the flower beds colorful and bright. Try and get them active with you by making gardening gloves and T-shirts just for them. Be as creative as you like. The more creative, the better to entice your little ones to join in. ๐Ÿ™‚

The whole idea for this blog post is for getting grandkids and grandparents together for some fun summer activities that will become nice memories. Let’s face it, playing outdoors is a far better option than sitting inside and playing computer games or phone texting.

Let The Ants Go Marching Somewhere Else!

antsgomarchingdvo By Cristina Duke @ DVO.com/ From: A newsletter I get monthly ๐Ÿ˜‰

As a grandmother, I have to be careful every spring; as we get a few ants coming in. They are usually headed for my cat’s bowl of food. Yikes!! Yes, I spray generously for those annoying pests every year around this time! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Since I’m an affiliate, I thought I’d share these helpful tips with you. ๐Ÿ™‚

A couple of months ago, I had a pretty embarrassing experience. Before I tell you all about it, let me give you a little bit of background information. Early this spring, we began to spy ants in our house. They were spotted in several locations throughout the house, but mostly in the kitchen. Eventually, I figured out that they were coming through a tiny crack underneath the ledge of our kitchen window sill. So I set out some ant traps, started noticing them less, and went on with life.

About this same time, my daughter’s preschool teacher asked us to save an empty egg carton to send to school at the end of the month. They would be using them for a class Easter egg hunt. As soon as we finished the eggs in one of our cartons, I set the empty carton on top of our cupboards, knowing my daughter would bring it to school in a few weeks.

When the week of the Easter egg hunt arrived, I saw the empty egg carton sitting on top of the cupboards and remembered I needed to send it in. In our rush out the door, I threw the egg carton in her backpack and we headed off to school. I gave my daughter instructions to give the egg carton to her teacher as soon as she got to the classroom andโ€ฆ she did.

When I picked her up from school later that day the first thing she said to me was, “MOM!! I think I know where all those ants in our kitchen were coming from!” I quickly put two-and-two together and realized that the egg carton we sent to school was infested with ants! I was so embarrassed. As soon as we got home, I emailed her teacher and apologized. She wrote me back and said that she was quite surprised when she opened the carton. She went on to say that the boys in the class thought it was the greatest thing ever to play “stomp the ants.” Bless her heart; she was so nice about it!

After this experience, I became a little more determined to get rid of the ants in my kitchen. I already knew some of the obvious things like keeping food sealed and put away, placing ant traps in strategic locations, and making sure to keep the counters and floors clean. However, in my research on “ant prevention”, I did learn a few new ideas. Maybe one of them will help you keep those pesky bugs out of your kitchen too!

-Clean your kitchen with a half vinegar-half water solution. Ants hate the smell of vinegar and it will also mess up the ants’ scent trails.

-Add a few drops of peppermint or cinnamon oil to your cleaning routine. After you have cleaned the surfaces in your kitchen well, wipe the areas again with a wet rag sprinkled with a few drops of peppermint or cinnamon essential oil. Ants dislike both of these smells and as a bonus, it will make your kitchen smell nice.

-Spray lemon juice on possible ant entrances. Just like vinegar, lemon juice can destroy the ants’ scent trails.

-Caulk. Use caulk to seal any cracks that the ants could be coming through.

-Place bay leaves in drawers, cupboards or containers where you’ve seen ants. Ants hate the smell of bay leaves and will stay away.

-Draw a chalk line around the area the ants are coming in. Some people swear that ants will not cross or go near a chalk line. The talcum powder in chalk is supposedly a natural ant repellant. The same idea might work if you sprinkled some baby powder with talcum powder around the area.

-Mix dish soap with baking soda. Put a thin line of this mixture where ants are coming in.

-Set out a mixture of borax, sugar, and water for the ants. Several people swear by this homemade ant trap. Spread a small amount of this mixture on a piece of cardboard. The ants will be attracted to it and take it back to their colony. The borax will kill the colony. Ant problem solved!

โ€ฆAnd maybe it’s best to not set any empty egg cartons on top of your cupboards!

The Best Way to Make Frosting for Valentine Cookies

wrappedheart

From The Prepared Pantry

Secrets to getting your grandkids to always beg for more! ๐Ÿ™‚

More Than Pretty Valentine Cookies

valentinecookies

Secret #1 is the flavor

We sell sugar cookie mixes that taste very good like key lime, cherry, lemon, and raspberry. The secret is in the frosting. If you put the flavor in the cookies, much of it bakes out. So we put most of it in the frosting. That makes them exceptionally good.

Secret #2 is the meringue powder

If you add a couple tablespoons of meringue powder to your frosting, it will dry with a shell on it–enough to keep the cookies from marring and sticking together. If you add more meringue powder, you have royal icing, the icing that is used to make the hard decorative flowers on wedding cakes.

More Sugar Cookie Tips…

Get the cookies off the sheet as soon as the pan comes out of the oven. Two bad things happen if you don’t. First the cookies stick. (You can get by with a very lightly greased pan if you remove the cookies immediately.)
Second, if you don’t take the cookies off immediately, they continue to bake on the pan. The become dry and hard.

If the bottoms of the cookies are brown, you baked them too long. They should be golden

Happy Fall and Psalm Of David

Happy Fall 2013

During the early morning hours today, I was enjoying my cocoa, breakfast and my Bible. ๐Ÿ™‚

As I opened it up this morning, I was led to read the Psalm Of David – My Mom’s favorite scriptures! Love YOU Mom! =)

57465404

Psalm Of David

The LORD Is My Shepherd….

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

He leadeth me beside the still waters. Rev. 7.17

He restoreth my soul:

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me;

Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

Thou anointest my head with oil;

My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life!

And I will dwell in the house of The LORD for ever.

Cheers To a Great Week! ๐Ÿ™‚
