My big fear with being a grandma is that my grandkids will forget me someday. I’m currently a constant presence in their lives. However, we just never know when that privilege could be taken away. I’m still going strong today, but we just don’t know when our number is up in this life, do we? 😉

This grandmother is working out daily and doing her best to stay (active) with her grandchildren. When she says (active), she means ANY activity that her grandchildren may be doing. It doesn’t always have to be sport related or a (moving) activity.

So, the mind needs to be just as active. — I think you get my drift… =)

I sometimes get a little lazy and choose to not workout on a particular day…or even do my work online. Yes! It happens sometimes. =( lol

So, let’s kick it into high gear…

The Following Motivators Help Keep Me On My Toes – (most times). lol

1) Include Variety In Working Out

I workout daily…however, there are lots of other things to do that would add a considerable amount of variety. This includes speed walking, aerobics, strength training, crunches, lunges, etc…

2) Remain Social

This includes doing things with friends and family, and (for me), staying active with my YouTube content creating, and on social networks.

3) Keep The Brain Active

There are so many things we can do to keep our brain (and body) ACTIVE!!!

4) Keep a Good Schedule With Household Chores

Now, just like ANYONE; I get unmotivated and kind of (not in the mood) for cleaning from time to time. But, for the most part, I usually keep my chores done up by tackling them BEFORE heading to my computer.

However, I need just a little bit of discipline (sometimes) in keeping my house good and clean. We all do sometimes, right?! YES, we do! =)

5) Eat Right

Consuming a proper diet is key to many, many things with remaining healthy; both physical and emotional/spiritual. There is actually a good article to read that shares some nice tips on this…as well as other topics. Stress is one of those. <3

Three Ways to Help Your Grandchildren Achieve Career Success

When you look back over your years of employment, how do you feel? Did you enjoy your jobs? Were they a good match for your talents and skills? In retirement, do you find yourself pursuing new interests while wondering Why didn’t I do this sooner? Can you help your grandchildren stay focused on their own individual talents and interests, and help steer them on a more satisfying career path than the one you perhaps had? Fortunately, the answer is yes! 😀

Enthusiasm

First, be open to your grandchildren’s enthusiasm. By age six, children realize that they are a separate entity from their parents. They’re usually eager to show off what they’re good at. Also, by that age, they realize that they will eventually grow up and have some sort of work to do. Adults are often asking them, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, so this is something they often consider as they look around and observe the many jobs that people hold.

But, of course, from a child’s perspective many jobs look fun and glamorous when in fact, they are not. Kids may dream of working as a tightrope walker, or a ballet dancer, or a basketball player, or a counter clerk at their favorite fast food restaurant. They don’t take risk, training, or pay rate into consideration.


Discussion

Second, take time for discussion. Their naivete doesn’t mean you can laugh at their ideas. Responding with, “Don’t be silly!” or “You can’t be that!” will shut down communication, and it tells them there are right and wrong answers to the “What do you want to be?” question. That can steer them away from their true interests and talents.

Instead, ask, “What part of that job do you think you’d like?” When you discover the main attraction of that dream job, you can then discuss it further, talking about how certain talents they have could be a good match, and suggesting other job ideas that would use those talents. Also, in an age-appropriate way, discuss your own career path—what went well, and where you could have done better in your job decisions.

Encouragement

Third, emphasize their interests and areas of giftedness. Make comments such as, “You’re so good at…” or “Not everyone can do that as easily as you do.” Often, we don’t see our own skills as particularly outstanding, but reminders like these can help kids remember what they’re good at. Encourage their talents whenever the opportunity arises. And when it’s time to buy gifts, find books or toys that will reinforce their skills and plant seeds for a future career.

Currently, studies repeatedly show that over half of all Americans dislike their jobs. We certainly don’t want those dismal statistics to continue for our grandchildren. If you stay open to their enthusiasm about jobs, discuss their ideas, and emphasize their talents, you’ll be helping to steer them toward a successful and fulfilling career that’s a great match for their unique talents and interests.

Yes….I am, I am!! This grandma definitely is! Lol

Although, I associate myself with good grandparenting tips, skills and tricks….in that I hardly ever bring a bag of chocolates in our home or my grandkid’s home. Unless it is Christmas, my grandchildren’s birthday, or some other appropriate holiday, such as Easter.


Why, you ask?

* I am highly addicted to chocolate. Enough said!

* You need to respect your kids enough not to bring on a confrontation/disagreement by bringing ANYTHING chocolate in their home or surroundings while the grandkids are present. Simple! 😉

* Needless to say, (just as a reminder), DON’T eat chocolate in front of the grands! Some grandparents just don’t think!

* When it IS appropriate for a chocolate treat, get in a good habit of buying “dark” chocolate. Dark is much better for you, AND them!

* Brag to your grandchildren about healthy substitutes to chocolate, or (any candy). This can be fruit, veggies, raw or steamed. Kid-friendly dips, such as ranch and others. Cheese sticks or slices, (homemade) chicken nuggets, etc… Just as long as it isnt, bubble gum, licorice, cotton candy, or those sugar, sweet and sour worms! LOL

* When baking, use dark chocolate…such as the dark chips. Simple!

Should You Clean or Declutter Your Grandchildren’s Rooms?

Deep Cleaning Cleaning and decluttering is all fine and good, however, when it comes to your grandkid’s things, you need to be aware of any boundaries set.

Boundaries set by your kids needs to be followed and respected.

For some grandparents…that may be a big issue

Some grandparents have a (natural) habit of cleaning and decluttering. Could it be that most grandmothers have this trait in their character? There are many Grandmas that have this natural need to clean and organize; even in their children’s rooms.

However, this could easily turn into a heated debate fast and furious!

Some people have a huge issue with their parents who just straighten up, or perhaps, take out the trash. I say, that’s going a tad bit too far in my book. However, there again; there are boundaries. 😉

This could be a major disaster if you have two children sharing a room…especially if the older child is up in their teen years. It’s natural for (some teenagers) to have a certain feeling and obsession about “their stuff,” and to be quite vocal about it!

So…what does this mean for grandparents that have an over-powering urge to clean and tidy up?

Below are (6) things to consider for grandparents that have an oever bearing need to clean, tidy up, or declutter.

Tips On How To Be A Fantastic Grandmother

There are great grandmothers, and there are those who, even if their intentions are pure, make life harder for mom and dads. Are you a first-time grandmother who wants to be remembered by the family as the best grandparent ever? Here are some ideas that you may want to consider.

Volunteer as babysitter sometimes

Being a new mom or dad is hard. It takes commitment for 24 hours a day, but that doesn’t mean the parent can’t take a break. If you have time in your hands, visit your new grandson or granddaughter and let the parents have their alone time. Tell them to hit the road and have fun every once in a while or take a long, nice bath without having them worry about the kids crying.

Lead by example

Grandparents should lead by example if they want to teach parents how to do parenting properly. Show them that the kids should always be important no matter how tough times get. In other countries that are ravaged by war, parents always think of their kids first by seeking aid from charities that provide free food and education. If you’re comfortably living in a free country, there’s no reason not to prioritize kids. A child’s education, health, and happiness are very important so don’t forget to provide them this while offering them love and support along the way. Help the child do his or her homework, feed them healthy food, and make them happy by doing little thoughtful things for them.

Give positive encouragement

Being very critical of new parents can be detrimental to their progress. As such, when they do something wrong, don’t correct them by shouting or making them feel like they just did the worst mistake a person can make. Instead, lead by example and suggest ways on how to improve their parenting style. You’ve been there, and you’ve done that so they will listen to you. And when they do something right, praise them. Encouragement and positive feedback goes a long way.

The weather is warming up and it’s time to make good on that goal of spending more time outside, and getting your kids and grandkids to do the same. Why, you may ask? Well, being outside has some great health benefits, and I’ve always believed that moderation is the key to good living, and today’s technology-saturated society offers little opportunity for moderate exposure to nature.

My family has always had a healthy appreciation for nature, but it’s easier every day to get caught up in whatever technology has just come out. My daughter had to go a week without her cell phone because of an ill-placed spring puddle, and she said she felt completely cut off from the world. Funny, because usually technology inhibits me from really connecting with the world, whether it be people or nature.

Here’s a quick fun list of outdoor activities that you can incorporate into your spring and summer routine with your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, or whatever young people bless your life.

Swimming- A river, lake, or even the ocean is preferable, but if your area is low on natural bodies of water, an outdoor pool is sufficient. The kids will enjoy any water slides or pool toys available, and all age groups will benefit from the vitamin D and the opportunity to lounge by the water.

Gardening- Healthy eating habits don’t come naturally these days, so growing your own food can have a ton of benefits. Having the kids help you will teach them lessons on work ethic, nutrition, the science of plants, and more. To encourage them to be more invested, allow them to help with the planning, choosing the plants that go in meals they like to eat. You can also let them choose some outdoor décor items in order to let them personalize their garden sections even more.

Hiking- Hiking isn’t just for camping trips. Most cities have great day hikes within an hour’s drive of city center. Portland practically has a mountain right in a residential area at LowerMacleay Park. See what hiking spots your area has. If it’s a bit of a drive, plan some roadtrip games that focus on looking for wildlife, and observing the scenery.

Park Visits- the best and easiest outdoor activity is probably visiting the park. There are playgrounds, wide open spaces, and usually some areas with tree-cover. One park trip can include dozens of activity, whether it’s rambunctious games of tag, reading, having a picnic, or all of the above. If you have a group with varied interests, the park is an easy and cost-effective way to please everyone.

Yes! I’M GOING TO BE GRANDMA AGAIN! I had to type it out big and bold so I could see it really good. It’s just so hard to believe cause this grandma stuff is happening so, so fast…however, I love it!! 🙂

I have a grandson, and now God, I’d really like a granddaughter so I can dress her up in frilly clothes and do just girl stuff with. That would be so very cool! But if You see fit to give us another grandson, that would be cool too! =)
