Family Organization Task Tips For Mothers and Grandmothers For 2019

organization tips I’ve been trying to organize my life, work, home, office, etc…for (let’s just say) awhile! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I keep telling myself that I’m just like my mom <3 ~~ My Sis agrees with me. ๐Ÿ™‚ Mom always had (small) piles of paper everywhere in the house; as far back as I can remember.

That’s certainly WAS NOT a (bad) reflection on Mom’s character!
She was a beautiful, pleasant, (and the most patient) lady I’ve ever met, with so many other good qualities.

I miss her every day! ๐Ÿ™

So, what’s my point??

My point is: I’m NOT an organized lady. However, that’s not to say I can’t offer YOU tips and advice on becoming organized, grandparenting tips, frugal living tips, OR, anything else I put my mind to. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m a writer by trade. I made a portion of my income by doing just that…writing. Notice I said, “Made.” ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol

I’m also kind, pleasant to be around, funny at times, an awesome grandmother, proud of my grands, a little shy at times, married to the best, learning more and more about live streaming on Facebook, AND…having a blast with My Avon Business while doing it!

So, maybe organization and making lists/task sheets are labeled as overrated?? Well, maybe so. Although, I DO happen to think the information offered in this blog post is valuable.

So, back to The Topic at hand. Organization Tips For Mothers and Grandmothers

Grandmothers: There are quite a few grandmas that provide childcare, and actually have their grandkids living with them permanently. There are also some that have them staying with them a (portion) of the time; over a year, month, or week. Well, the same goes for grandmothers. This organization task list works for and applies to them as well.

 

Organize Tasks/Chores List For Each of Your Children/Grandchildren

 

What Is Required?

There are a few ways to organize family tasks that can be adjusted and readjusted. If you’re not a mom or grandma that does spreadsheets, you can delegate with simple, large, desktop or hanging calendars. Another idea would be magnetic erase boards that could be displayed on the fridge or just a simple one to hang on a wall. Actually, there are all kinds of ways to organize your life, home, and family.

For tech and app-friendly mothers and grandmothers, there are all types of apps and excellent programs available. It’s really a matter of preference and ease, and whatever method that you feel most comfortable.

 

Work Up a Points Journal or Spreadsheet For Each Child

 

You could virtually do the same with a points system for your kids. A calendar, journal, spreadsheet, or erase board would also be ideal for calculating points. Really, you could use a simple, (large or small) notebook to do this.

Although, it is best to display a point system for behavior-challenged or young children. ๐Ÿ˜‰ There is something about them seeing actual points tallied for THEM! It helps with a sense of accomplishment and also, helps to establish a feeling of “usefulness” and well being.

For Starters – Delegate For Basic Clutter – Have each child put away their toys, clothing, computers, tablets, and other personal things at the end of the day. After the kids are all tucked in for the night and asleep, inspect the house and their rooms for belongings that are not in their designated places. Reward with points accordingly. For things that are left out by one of your children, take those items away for a week or so, and make them work for getting them back. Don’t make this too hard on them; however, just enough to get the message across.

For the younger kiddos, encourage help, and always go through a nightly routine (with them). They need to be guided and praised for their self-esteem and learning capabilities.

 

Delegate For a Hand With Food and Meal Preparation

Healthy Snacks in Baggies – The awesome thing about this idea is that they are all “self serve foods.”

Small Pretzel Twists – Purchase a large bag of pretzels and divide them up in plastic bags. This snack choice is easy, healthy, and doesn’t include extra sugar.

Grapes: They are an awesome fruit that is also a healthy choice. Do the same with these.

Trail Mix: Trail mixes are a top pick for deciding what is good for you and your family. This snack is loaded with vitamins and minerals our bodies need. Divide them out in the baggies for quick access.

Encourage Eating Veggies With Baby Carrots and Cherry Tomatoes

Fresh Carrots – Your local grocery store usually provides packaged, baby carrots, so no need for cutting.

Cherry Tomatoes – These are tiny tomatoes that are excellent for portioning out.

Choose between your children to help fill these goody bags. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This will also encourage healthy eating habits.

Have Your Kids Take Turns With Setting The Table – Choose between your little ones that are best suited for this task.

 

Older Kid’s Chores

 

Large Ingredient Meals…Such as Vegetable Soup, or Big Salads – Select older children to help cut up ingredients for these type of meals. A good idea is to let the younger ones observe to help teach them.

* Doing Dishes – This is also a task for the older ones; however, an ideal chore to delegate.

* Neat and Tidy Bedrooms – To encourage your children to keep their rooms clean, you can maybe pick the weekends to help each child to get into the habit of doing just that; clean and tidy (their own) rooms. For example: Have them empty all trash, pick up all dirty clothing, make sure all toys and tech-type items are in their appropriate places.

* Dusting – This isn’t too hard of a task, so all the kids can get into this cleaning chore, with careful supervision. Choose for them specific rooms to dust.

* Cleaning The Basement and Garage – This job could also be a weekend event. Sweeping needs to be done, and, tools and supplies need to be organized. Hand out those jobs according to age and level.

Remember, you are teaching your children and grandchildren to be responsible, clean, and organized adults. <3

Put Yourself on The Task List – This actually shows your little ones what all YOU do to keep an organized house and home. It displays and teaches what all is involved with organized, clean living. It is important to list EVERYTHING that you do, it may take a little time to get it all posted; however, it is worth it for your kids to see. <3

And Finally…

Realize that your children/grandchildren will need some time to learn and adapt to any type of family organization program or schedule, especially if they are young. Also, assigning a task that is too difficult for them will only be burdensome for both you and them. Start small on delegating tasks for each child. As they get older, you can always adjust for various levels and ages.

Grandparenting Tips and Chocolate

Yes….I am, I am!! This grandma definitely is! Lol

Although, I associate myself with good grandparenting tips, skills and tricks….in that I hardly ever bring a bag of chocolates in our home or my grandkid’s home. Unless it is Christmas, my grandchildren’s birthday, or some other appropriate holiday, such as Easter.


Why, you ask?

* I am highly addicted to chocolate. Enough said!

* You need to respect your kids enough not to bring on a confrontation/disagreement by bringing ANYTHING chocolate in their home or surroundings while the grandkids are present. Simple! ๐Ÿ˜‰

* Needless to say, (just as a reminder), DON’T eat chocolate in front of the grands! Some grandparents just don’t think!

* When it IS appropriate for a chocolate treat, get in a good habit of buying “dark” chocolate. Dark is much better for you, AND them!

* Brag to your grandchildren about healthy substitutes to chocolate, or (any candy). This can be fruit, veggies, raw or steamed. Kid-friendly dips, such as ranch and others. Cheese sticks or slices, (homemade) chicken nuggets, etc… Just as long as it isnt, bubble gum, licorice, cotton candy, or those sugar, sweet and sour worms! LOL

* When baking, use dark chocolate…such as the dark chips. Simple!

I’m not saying your grandchild should NEVER eat chocolate! — See my 3rd sentence above; go for chocolate at appropriate times…or the (dark in moderation).

Back-to-School Health Checklist

meandgrands Grandmas need to step it up and get in on the safety and well being of their grandkids just as much as their parents…in my opinion. ๐Ÿ™‚

* Make for sure your child’s emergency contact info is correct. I think this one should be on top of the list for sure. ๐Ÿ˜‰

* Updated Shots – This is essential and must be high up on the list of priorities…always! When your child is in a school environment, there are all types of germs floating around. These shots are just a logical way to help prevent illnesses and diseases.

* Eye Site – Regular eye exams are important to your child’s schooling, and also, home life.

* Teeth and Gums – If you want to keep your child healthy and infection-free, it’s a good idea to make them brush and floss daily. A nice smile is an awesome thing to have too! =)


* Make sure the nurse is aware of your child’s allergies and medications they are taking. Good Golly Miss Molly, this is important; much needless to say! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ lol

* Get enough sleep – When I was a young child, I remember going to bed every (school night) at 8:00 – 8:30. What’s the best time for the kiddos to get tucked into bed at night? What’s your opinion?

* Nutrition – Remember, breakfast is the most important meal of the day =) In addition, is it top priority that your kids don’t consume fast food?

* Make for sure your child has transportation scheduled, wether it be a bus, you, or someone else to drive them to school and back. You never know these days what can happen and WHERE!

Don’t Let That Good Food Go To Your Hips! Half a Dozen Tips For Holidays

weightloss tips I didn’t get on my scales after Thanksgiving. Did I indulge? Yes, I did. ๐Ÿ˜‰

As some of you know, I’m eating low carb. However, I’m human and my reins un-tighten and I slip off the wagon (temporarily) now and then. Oh, come on, everyone does – (temporarily) from time to time.

 

 

Do I call myself a failure whenever I do this? I tend to, yes. And I beat myself up for it at times, although, I try not to. Like I said, I’m human and for sure…NOT perfect!

Someone pitched a (share an article for review) with the opening statement today:

You survived Thanksgiving, but youโ€™re not out of the woods yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, why didn’t I get on those scales the day after Thanksgiving? Well, I knew I had over-indulged that day. Do I then, keep doing the same until the holidays are over? That sure wouldn’t be a smart thing to do would it?! Some people do…this is what (we) call (yo-yo dieting).

Well, guess what? I’ve been there!

I’ve done it, been there and done that too many times. Resolution after resolution, yep, I know all about that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I happen to know just about all the tricks, tips and the RIGHT ways to go about losing or maintaining weight. In fact, I have (half a dozen) good ones I’d like to share with you today. These tips are especially geared for the (2) biggest (over-indulgent, that’s what I like to call them in regards to weight maintaining) days of the year…Thanksgiving and Christmas. I always try to incorporate these tips as often as I can during the holidays; and even all year around even.

After all, if you’re trying to lose a few pounds or just trying to stay true to what you’ve lost, it should be a complete change in lifestyle and healthy (life-long) habits. Right?? Well, if you’ve paid attention, I’ve intentionally stated the word: SHOULD above. However, that doesn’t always make us a success…knowing the shoulds and knowing the smart things to do. That being said, let’s get to those (6) tips! I’m indeed preaching to myself and WILL find myself accountable by sharing today! <3

Something I was craving today (french fried onions) ended up NOT being so bad with the low carb way of eating. So, I had it for an afternoon snack. However, I did want to over-dip my hand in the bag a couple more times…although, I managed self control! Yeah, for me! lol

Here are those one half dozen tips for you; I certainly hope you find them helpful

1) Stay Off The Scales During The Holidays – Too often a rise in those numbers can trigger emotional eating. It is advisable to wait until after all the hustle and bustle is over to get back on the scales. Although, keeping THIS in the back of your mind helps too. Your conscience self knows you have to weigh yourself the beginning of the year. Keep on track with healthy eating habits or whatever eating lifestyle or program you follow. Hide your scales out of the bathroom if you have to.

2) Drink Extra Water – Keep a daily, ACTIVE journal for the amount of water you consume. Water speeds up your digestive system. You don’t need a sluggish (pipe system) at holiday time. Would NOT be a good thing for aiming for weight loss or maintenance. Purchase bottled water, flavored water, or whatever you have to do to get yourself into a daily habit of drinking large amounts of water. It flushes out your system and it’s also good for the many organs and muscles in your body. I accidentally found out those flavored waters are good if kept in the freezer (only for a few minutes); it tastes slushy….that’s if you’re into slushes. Also, it’s always a good idea to drink (2) full glasses or bottled water before a holiday meal.

3) Eat Before You Go – Not only do you need to consume water before you go to a dinner party or what have you, but it’s also a wise choice to eat a few healthy snacks before you leave the house. You may think this would be counter-productive, however, it’s not. Your stomach will be approximately half full when you sit down to that big meal. Believe me, you WILL consume less!! Also, listen to your body when you are done eating the main meal; chances are, you won’t feel like dessert. But if you do, remember choose wisely and watch portion size.

4) Bring Healthy Dishes – When asked to prepare dishes for a special holiday event, always opt to make up something that fits your lifestyle or a weight loss program you’re following. It would certainly be too tempting to prepare foods that YOU consider unhealthy. For example, I’m following low carb; so it certainly would be counter productive for me to prepare a (carb loaded) potato dish. It would be more fitting (for me) to prepare a clean and healthy vegetable dish. Even a raw veggie and dip type of dish would be a wise choice. I could always look up a delicious low carb dish to whip up. Don’t bring something that you would have to slap your hand a few times for double dipping! If all else fails, bring something that you DON’T like. lol ๐Ÿ˜‰

5) Keep Moving – Being active helps with working off those calories. It helps melt off those butter-ball turkeys and pumpkin pie calories. However, you certainly didn’t need for me to tell you this, did you? This is just a reminder. LOL – For example; take the stairs instead of elevators. Park your car way in back of the parking lot when you go to the mall. Every step counts! Again, I’m preaching to myself as well! I do my workout routines in the mornings. Once I’m up and going, I’m fine. It’s getting up early in the first place that is challenging. I found setting my alarm clock or phone way across the room helps. It does the trick believe it or not! One more thing that works for me is I’m a grandmother of two sweet kids, and being called on to babysit helps tremendously.

6) Watch Your Alcohol Intake – Yes, you need to watch how much booze you drink. If at the very least, drink in careful moderation. Alcohol usually stimulates the taste buds, making foods (seem) to taste better. DUH…You will more than likely over indulge. ๐Ÿ™ I know, it sucks right?! Not to mention most alcohol beverages are bathed in un-wanted calories and carbs.

Fruits and Veggies Year Round: What You Need for an Indoor Garden

Wouldn’t it be nice to harvest strawberries in the middle of winter to use in your Christmas recipes? Perhaps you’re an avid cook and like to use freshly picked and dried spices. Growing these items year round isn’t as difficult as many may assume. Realistically, it doesn’t take sunlight to grow fruits and vegetables – although it’s quite beneficial. As long as you provide the right environment, you can grow nearly anything indoors.

1. Space – First, you’re going to need the room to grow whatever it is you plan on growing. Most herbs, flowers and some edibles can fit in a single upright pot. Others will require room to branch out such as watermelons and strawberries. If you have a room you can dedicate to growing, this could be more ideal. If not, make sure you have enough room in your kitchen for the plants to grow.

2. Light – Although sunlight is great for plants and humans alike, it’s not a required light source for growing. For less than $25, you can set up a fluorescent or LED light source for the plants. Photosynthesis happens with light regardless of the source. The sun is merely an incredibly intense source of converting light into energy for the plant. Although you don’t have to leave the florescent light on all night, it won’t hurt the plants if you do.

3. Temperature – One of the most important aspects you need to consider is keeping the right temperature. According to most seeds for flowers and edibles, the temperature needs to be over 67 degrees Fahrenheit. As long as you can maintain the temperature around 72 degrees in the home, your plants could flourish. This is important for the cold radiating off of a window at night can cool your plants. Keep them in an area where you can maintain the temperature. Some people will incorporate heat lamps above plants in order to combine warmth and light.

4. Water – Warm air and damp soil could cause mold to form on your soil. You don’t want to keep your plants completely enclosed, as circulation of air can keep those molds from forming. As the sunlight is more than likely not going to shine on the soil in an indoor garden, you won’t have to water the plants as often. Sunlight helps evaporate the water in soil and without it the soil retains more water.

5. Safety – If you have pets, your plants could be subjected to damage from the animals eating the beginning stages of the stems. There are a number of ways to keep animals from invading your plants ranging from using citrus peals around planters to buying screen and building a cheap box to enclose the plants. Placing them too close to furnace vents and other HVAC devices could also be damaging causing the plant to wilt and die.

Building an indoor garden isn’t difficult as long as you manage the basics listed above. This can provide you with a near endless supply of herbs for cooking and edibles for eating. Of course the more elaborate you become with your garden the more it will produce. Many will go so far as to building small green houses onto the home for year round applications. You’re only limited by the size of the area you want to use.
