Much Needed Time To Recharge And Spend Quality Time With Family

Via:
lovethispic

I’ve been saving up one coin at a time for about eight months now.
So, why have I been saving??…

A (very nice) vacation. Hmmm, not quite sure on the “very nice” part though! However, we’ll see about that!

A lot of you are aware I went on a vacation/reunion for the past six days. 😉

Well, I was corrected on the (vacation) part of the above description.

This WAS NOT a vacation…just a family (cousin) reunion. lol

Although, mine was definitely a vacation, getaway for me! YEAH! 🙂 Furthermore, It was totally what the doctor ordered.

6) I’ve yet to get FULLY committed again on my weight loss journey…tomorrow people! lol 😉
7) My purse is over-loaded with “stuff.”
8) Some of my flowers are wilted.
9) I’ve got the BLAH blues.
10 Muscles are starting to jiggle.
11) My fur baby seems distant
12) I’m going through emails like nobody’s business! lol
13) My phone is overloaded with pictures.
14) Avoiding the scales for a week.
15) I need a nap RIGHT NOW!

Do any of these sound familiar to you!?? lol

What is Family

Family is considered “Blood relatives living in a caring unit.” However, there are many types of families in modern living. If you look in the dictionary, you’ll find many original definitions.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

* A group consisting of parents and children living together in a household
* All the descendants of a common ancestor
* The basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children
* A group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head: Household
* A group of people who are related to each other
* A group of related people including people who lived in the past
* A group of usually related individuals who live together under common household authority and especially who have reciprocal duties to each other

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Main Categories of Family

* Traditional

I classify this as the “normal’ family unit. You know…like the Archie Bunker type on television. lol
Though less common in today’s society; The traditional family type is Dad working to support the other members while Mom stays at home tending to the children and the home.

* Step

A group of people formed in a caring union through divorce and remarriage, consisting of children coming from separate parents.

* Foster ~~ From http://www.adopt.org/

What the foster care system is: a temporary arrangement in which adults provide for the care of a child or children whose birthparent is unable to care for them. Foster care is not where juvenile delinquents go. It is where children go when their parents cannot, for a variety of reasons, care for them.

* Adopted ~~ From https://www.scoe.org/files/ccpc-family-structures.pdf

A family where one or more of the children has been adopted. Any structure may also be an adoptive family.
Sometimes children (as well as adults) use the term” real parents” instead of “birth parents.” Be clear that the adoptive parents are the real parents because they are raising the child. Intervene if other children tease an adopted child with comments…such as “That isn’t your real mommy.” Do not automatically assume that any problems a child may be having are due to adoption.
This type of family shares legal bonds but not genetic ones. Two parents may adopt a child to whom they share no blood relationship, or one parent may adopt the child of the other parent. Adopted families can also be defined in an emotional or spiritual sense where no formal legal bonds are present.

* Pets

I have a special fur baby! My kitty, AKA Whinnie is definitely considered my family. <3 <3 <3

We’ve all heard of “Adopt a Pet.” Many people may adopt a special animal when having children is not a possibility, although many people adopt pets into a large living unit consisting of many children.
Pets are considered family members when they are loved and cared for. They are mourned just as much as children are when they pass.

My Version – What is Family

It’s not infinitely about blood relatives, let’s get that out there upfront..Number one! 😉

Family is anyone who supports, (emotionally and financially) one another in a group of people living together.

It could be grandparents permanently taking over the care of their grandchildren; it could be a gay couple adopting children; it could be a single parent loving and supporting their kids.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It’s about being a good “quiet strength,” and truly listening WITHOUT judgment! And, all the while, giving advice (when it’s asked for). It’s about supporting and raising your children the very best you know how while lending a big shoulder to cry on.

It’s also about being there for a family member, (through anything) child, aunt, grandmother, cousin, spouse, etc. for comfort, financial support, emotional support, building self-esteem, sharing compassion, and expressing love and kindness.

I came home from this reunion feeling a little tired; however, feeling awesome, recharged, and ready to apply myself through my goals and my everyday living. I’m ready to tackle whatever comes my way. <3

Pterodactyl Show and Tell Book Review

The Pterodactyl Show and Tell book
has become a huge hit among grandmothers and mothers out there since its publication in October 2018. <3

What would be your first reaction if you found out that your grandchild/child brought a pterodactyl to school?? Even if it was for show and tell! lol

Keep that in mind as I carefully calculate some interesting facts while doing this review

The pterodactyl is simply a flying dinosaur, (aka) a flying reptile. Its proper name is pterosaurs, and something you’d see out of Jurassic Park! lol

Also, the pterodactylus originated back in 1784. The historian; Cosimo Alessandro Collini was the first to investigate the above Fossil/Pterodactyl.

I was delighted to get the invite from Allison Rosenblum (Editorial Assistant) to review this
adorable tale
.

The meat of the review:

Pterodactyl Show and Tell
was written with charming imagination for a child’s fantasy in mind, and fabricated with fun rhyming words. What Grandma wouldn’t LOVE to read this to her grandchildren!? Excellent read with a collection of fun, colorful illustrations!?

A third-grade school boy decides to bring a pet to school for show and tell. What the boy didn’t anticipate happening was that this pterodactyl would impart disarrayed turmoil with the entire class and teacher.

This flying dinosaur engaged in trying to eat a few students, deleted some needed information off of a computer, and succeeded in frightening the teacher so much that she hid from behind her desk.

So, as you might have envisioned, the events from that day resulted in fleeing classmates; so much that the little boy observed that most of his third-grade class has all but disappeared; then he finds that he was promoted to fourth grade! 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I will also, enjoy reading it to my grandchildren!! TWO THUMBS up for me!!!

Author: Thad Krasnesky is a writer of children’s books. He resides in Lansing, KS. This is his third picture book.

Illustration: Tanya Leonello has an MFA in medical and biological illustration. She has the needed inspiration to create art for children’s picture books. Tanya lives in Dexter, MI.

Personalized Ornaments For You Review

I simply LOVE this time of year!!! The holidays are so much fun with my grandchildren. <3

Even though I have plenty of ornaments and decorations, I always find myself in the Christmas department in whatever store I happen to be at. I’m always shopping for new decor for my tree/s. lol =)

This year – 2018, I was overjoyed to get a special email about a collaboration from PersonalizedOrnamentsForYou.com. Stephanie was so kind to offer me a $50 Gift Certificate to shop on their site for a return review about the personalized ornaments and their website.

Let me tell you…I had some fun shopping for those ornaments! <3

The website has a wide variety to choose from. I personally like their dog and cat ornaments. I especially like how they’ll add a paw print on the product for FREE! Those are adorable.

I promptly received the ornaments of my choosing. Speedy turn around for what I had ordered.

And hey…about the products themselves —

Excellent quality! When you hold these products in your hands, you can feel how sturdy they are.

They are also, larger than what I expected. That’s always a plus.

In addition, you can definitely tell that a lot of detail went into creating these adorable ornaments.

I WILL gladly be a return shopper!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The website is very well put together. PersonalizedOrnamentsForYou.com has it all properly laid out for you.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The collection categories are on the left, and the top menu has all the essential linksAbout, Contact, FAQ, Shipping Info, and Their Blog.

In addition, the site has a lengthy category list. Everything from parents, grandparents, animals, graduation, birthday, baby, patriotic, occupation, religious, teacher, retirement, engagement, and many more.

I really love the Christmas Countdown at the top of the site, where it has days, hours, minutes and seconds. Charming idea!

I think the best feature that Personalized Ornaments For You has is remaining on-trend. The staff is consistently searching for all the new trends for their products and adding new themes to add to their Christmas Ornament Collection

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Excellent website to shop for the holiday season!

21 Good Tips For Keeping Your Brain Alive And Active At Any Age

I have Alzheimer’s in my family, so this post is for me too. And, let’s face it; everyone could use tips for staying active to be as healthy as they can be. My sweet mother had the disease, as well as my grandfather. So, I always have that nagging warning in the back of my mind.

The Lord took mom with breast cancer before the Alzheimers got too bad. I’m definitely a believer in things always happening for a reason. <3

This blog post isn’t JUST for Alzheimer’s patients; however, I have good points for those people that do have it. 😉

This blog post is also excellent for grandmothers! Me, me, me! LOL

The second half of the tips shared, I didn’t elaborate. I left that up to YOU. Chime in with your thoughts! 😀

Right off the top of my head, I can come up with an awesome tip to start.

1) Surround yourself with vivid colors! This can be in the form of your home and decor, your clothing, places, and events that you frequent, painting, and things that you study or even websites you visit often. It can be anything you see, any place you go, or….these vivid colors can be ANYWHERE. Going on a vacation in the fall season would be excellent for viewing all kinds of pretty fall colors! =)

Remembering that vacation, that piece of clothing, that building, that website, for example; would be a lot easier than remembering something that`s rather boring.

2) Consume pomegranate! It can be in the form of seeds, juice, fruit, extract, and powder. According to Authority Nutrition – Health Line dot com, pomegranate is one of the healthiest foods that you can eat. Studies have shown that it’s great for a host of diseases, your physical performance, and the elderly.

Also, pomegranate CAN (help) against Alzheimer’s disease.

3) Surround yourself with good friends! Socializing with human friends is awesome for giving your brain a boost. In fact, it’s all-around good for (ANYONE at ANY age).

Studies also show that healthy friends and relationships help support emotional health. Notice how much better you feel after getting out with friends on a particular day or evening! 😉

If you don’t get together with humans on a regular basis, you can start to volunteer somewhere, visit your local church or community, go to bingo halls, sign up for purple hat, or join a gym. Just a few ideas there. Although, it’s important to remain close with your family members and friends. See them often and don’t lose touch!

4) Start coloring! Say hey, only kids color! Well, have you noticed all the adult coloring books floating around the stores?

Yes, it’s true! Pay attention to the trends in coloring. Many adults now have coloring books and are creating many beautiful works of art. Some are going beyond coloring and engaging in drawing and painting. In fact, charcoal drawing is quite popular today.

Also, the outlet of letting your mind go and just creating is remarkably therapeutic! Paying attention to all that you create can sharpen your mind considerably. This can also help with self-esteem.

5) Go back to school! Excellent for keeping the brain active. Also, this one is definitely for any age for people that quit school or the elderly that are retired and suddenly have extra time on their hands.

6) Do some type of activity/workout on a daily basis! Enough said! lol

7) Take daily multivitamins with good nutritional quality! Some people don’t like or simply do not believe in them. That’s fine; however, there are some good vitamins and herbs out there that CAN help with memory and energy.

8) Participate in games! These games can be card games, trivia, video games, and memory games.

9) Try to get some ZZZ’s during the day! Get in a good habit of taking a nap every day. You may not realize just how beneficial this can be with memory and general brain function. A daytime nap will benefit you almost as much as your sleep during the night. It only takes 30 minutes or less.

10) Get interested in word find books, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles! I’ve always liked the word find books and of course, jigsaw puzzles. Crossword puzzles, not so much.
These activities consistently engage and stimulate the brain.

The Following Tips Are For My Readers and Subscribers To Elaborate…I’d Love To Hear From You! 😀

11) Eat a well-balanced diet! You will also need to eat sugar and fats very moderately.

12) Engage in Meditation and Deep breathing!

13) Invest in a pet!

14) Read every day!

15) Don’t drink alcohol!

16) Start crocheting or knitting daily!

17) Study a foreign language!

18) Don’t smoke!

19) Try a variety of foods when dinning out!

20) Keep your weight in check!

21) Start each day with a great attitude! Beleive in yourself!

Cheers to a healthy, happy life! <3

My Star – Story Of a Rescued Kitty

37054666b

Being the animal lover that I am…and I love cats, I wanted to share this with you 🙂

I found this touching story in my inbox this morning!

From
Alicia – Sarasota, FL

I really didn’t want a cat at the time after loosing my Pristine 2 years earlier but a friend of mine was going to look at some kittens that were advertised on Craigslist and I guess when she got there she called me. I could tell that she was frantic and she begged me to go take a look at the kittens. My husband and I drove 30 minutes to Ellenton where the kittens were located and took a look.

While all the other kittens were playing and having fun there was this small grey tabby who was very thin and off by herself.

The lady insisted that I didn’t want her due to the fact that she was a loner, but the little girl stole my heart

I went over and wiggled my finger at her and she flopped on her back giving me her belly. That was it she was coming home with me and my husband agreed. After a few days and a vet check Starla’s personality came out.

She was feisty, playful, and loved sitting on my shoulder while we were in the car

There was never a dull moment with her, especially now. Despite the 4 times we moved and me having my hours cut back Star has been there through it all rolling around chasing her tail, attacking me from under the blankets, curling up with me at night, chewing me out if I stayed out to late or I am not in bed when she is ready to go to bed, and flopping on her back for belly rubs.

I honestly do not know what I would do if Starla wasn’t in my life. 🙂

She is my best friend and entertainer

I love you my little Star!
