Latest On Infant Care For Grandmothers

I went to an infant care class with my DIL and the other grandmother. It was rather interesting to find out how infant care has evolved in the last 25 years.

This is a follow up from ~~ Latest On Infant Care. I referred to it as “Grandma School” 🙂

Us grandmothers learned a lot! =)

I learned the phrase “Swaddle” Yes, this is all new to me. I have not cared for an infant in a long time. lol

Below is an example of swaddling a baby–my great nephew and neices

After I had my son, I put him down in his crib on his stomach with a blanket over him. A whole new way of doing things now! Remember, I had my son 25 years ago. 😉

You are supposed to swaddle an infant tight with a blanket. “The whole idea is to make your newborn feel like he’s in the womb again,” Quoted by Dr. Harvey Karp

Dr. Karp’s Five “S’s” For Calming A Fussy Baby:

Swaddling
Side/stomach position
Swinging
Shushing
Sucking

Awesome infant care information! The Happiest Baby On The Block

A couple more things…

Baby powder can cause cervical cancer (baby girls)
You’re not supposed to use crib bumper pads anymore due to “sids death”

This class was held in a room at the hospital where my DIL will be having the baby. And after the class, they took us down to the nursery. There was one baby girl there…the sweetest precious baby. Well, they all are aren’t they? 😀

It’s getting really close now to the big “D” day! 🙂
